Mr.

Previous | Next
Mr. is a Japanese artist discovered by Takashi Murakami in 1995 and has since been involved with Murakami’s art organization Kaikai Kiki. Mr. first made his impression on the contemporary art scene with a collection of drawings including anime-style girl characters using the back of shopping receipts.

Mr.’s works are uniquely Japanese with their anime-inspired, large-eyed characters. Cheerful boys with their pants down and girls in short skirts, who appear sexually provocative, in flat color fields in a blend of Lolita and Otaku culture, which has won praise by UCLAs Paul McCarthy as having an unbearable irresistibility in its tiny, innocent world.

Recently, Mr.’s work was on view at the Musee D’Art Contemporain de Lyon with fellow Kaikai Kiki artists Chiho Aoshima and Aya Takano. In 2005, he was included in the acclaimed exhibition Little Boy: The Arts of Japanese Exploding Subculture at the Japan Society in New York .
